THE ISSUE

Hurricane Beryl which struck SVG on July 1, 2024, devastated the Southern Grenadines and severely damaged parts of Bequia, Young Island, and Saint Vincent. Among the buildings severely damaged or destroyed were Primary and Secondary schools and the SVG Community College — 28 in all.

The Issue: Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction

Hurricane Beryl’s devastation of the Southern Grenadines and its destruction elsewhere in SVG on July 1, 2024, have occasioned the immediate rolling out of relief for affected persons and the early beginnings of the process of recovery and reconstruction.

On Monday, July 1, 2024, the dangerous Hurricane Beryl with an intensity of 150 miles per hour, bore down on SVG causing severe damage, mayhem, devastation, extreme pain and suffering. In the process, Beryl devastated Union Island, Mayreau, Palm Island, and Petit St. Vincent; wreaked havoc on Canouan; damaged Mustique; and wrecked large parts of Saint Vincent. 

Notice is given that the Public Order (Amendment) Bill 2024, which seeks to amend the Public Order Act, Chapter 396 of the Laws of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Revised Edition, 2009, is published for comments.

On Monday, 29th April, 2024, the Government of Japan announced its conferment of the high national decoration of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun on Dr. The Honourable Ralph E. Gonsalves, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
