CONSTITUENCIES IN ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES
1957 – 2003
THE CONSTITUENCY BOUNDARIES COMMISSION
The Constitution of St. Vincent and the Grenadines provides for a Constituency Boundaries Commission. This Commission when appointed consists of:
-
a chairman who shall be appointed by the Governor General in his own deliberate judgment;
-
one member who shall be appointed by the Governor General, acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister; and
-
one member who shall be appointed by the Governor General, acting in accordance with the advice of the Leader of the Opposition.
Section 33 subsection 3 of the Constitution states that:
A commission shall be appointed in the following circumstances, that is to say –
-
whenever a census of the population of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been held in pursuance of any law
-
whenever Parliament has amended subsection (1) of this section so as to alter the number of the constituencies into which St. Vincent and the Grenadines is divided; or
-
on the expiry of eight years after the commission last reviewed the boundaries of the constituencies in accordance with the provisions of this section.
